Stoke residents hear 'explosion' as 'several fire engines' race to blaze at house

Residents fear there's been an "explosion" on a residential street this evening as fire crews are battling a blaze at a house.

Dramatic images from the scene show smoke billowing from an address as several fire engines are at the house in Pitts Hill, Stoke-on-Trent.

It is not known at this stage whether there are any injuries or people trapped.

One resident told Stoke-on-Trent Live: "About an hour ago my partner heard an explosion or smash We went outside about 25 mins ago and see this. There's several fire engines here."

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service say they were called to the scene at 7.30pm.

A spokesman said: "We have three appliances in St Michael's Road.

"We are unable to give further details at this time due the nature of the incident but the police will be providing statements. The incident is ongoing at this time."

The Mirror contacted Staffordshire Police for a statement.
