Residents' fury as Scots drivers park cars in blind spots near Devil's Pulpit

Residents near a Scots beauty spot have been left furious by day-trippers parking their cars in blind spots during coronavirus lockdown.

One local filmed high numbers of cars parked dangerously at the side of a rural road near the Devil's Pulpit in Stirlingshire.

Finnich Glen near Killearn, known locally as the Devil's Pulipit, was catapulted to fame with the filming of hit programme Outlander.

Cars can be seen parked up on a grassy verge and jutting out onto the A84 Stockiemuir Road, forcing drivers to slow down and manoeuvre around the vehicles or come to a standstill.

Resident Jade Mullen, from nearby Croftamie, said hordes of sightseers had first turned up after the camera crews had been in the local area.

But now lockdown restrictions were easing she said the area has been overrun with visitors dumping their cars and leaving behind litter.

Jade said the drivers were risking lives (Twitter)

Jade told the Record: "I just can't believe what I'm seeing just now - there have never been as many people in the area.

"Cars park all along the road at dangerous bends.

"Someone was killed here a few years back and I'm worried it will happen again.

"We need to have some action taken against these drivers. They're just ridiculous.

Jade warns the video she filmed only shows a small number of the people flocking to the countryside every day.

She added: "Even prior to phase 1 when the “stay indoors” was mandatory the place was mobbed with people - adults, kids, dogs.

"As you can see in the video this is a taster of the influx of people to the small rural area. The police closed the small car park , and rightly so, however they have not moved on any of the drivers you see parked.

"That stretch of road is a dangerous stretch of road and people have been killed on it.

"It’s full of bad bends, blind corners, blind summits and the police are well aware of that.

"There are regularly crowds of people walking on the road and I have seen umpteen very close calls where the drivers haven’t been in the wrong at all and just missed hitting people.

"The locals are all of the same opinion as we all know how dangerous the place has become."

Police Scotland has been contacted for comment.
