Residents fume after road flooding AGAIN despite promises it would be fixed

People in one area of Merseyside have been left furious after recent heavy downpours have again left their road submerged beneath several inches of water.

Residents living on Lambshear Lane in Lydiate say there has been a big problem with flooding for many years.

Former Sefton councillor Tony Robertson says it "has been quite a saga and it’s still yet to be resolved" and that road users, householders and pedestrians alike should not have to put up with the deluge.

He said: "Back in June [2018], Sefton Council's drainage engineers said United Utilities would fix the problem.

"Well whatever has happened since, it hasn’t fixed the problem. This is getting on four years now."

A mum-of-two who lives on Lambshear Lane added: "It's a joke. It'll more of a school swim than a school run at this rate!"

A United Utilities spokesperson said: “Our records show we don’t have a sewer in the vicinity of the flooding but we will be sending an engineer out to investigate if any part of the network we have responsibility for is contributing to the water pooling on this section of Lambshear Lane.”

“We’ll share the findings of our investigation with the council so any required action can be taken to minimise the occurrence of any future surface water flooding at this location.”

A spokesman for Sefton Council said: “In the past couple of days we have seen a significant amount of rainfall leading to some localised highway flooding and have attended Lambshear Lane to carry out some remedial works.

“The matter has since been passed on to United Utilities for further investigation and we are awaiting any further updates from them.”
