Residents forced to flee their homes after fire in Perth city centre takeaway

Emergency services rushed to a fire in Perth city centre on Sunday.

The blaze was reported shortly after 4pm from the Elrasheed takeaway on Scott Street.

It is understood the flames also spread to a flat above the shop, while residents were forced to leave their homes by the smoke.

Seven fire appliances were on the scene to try and bring the flames under control.

The road had to be closed while firefighters battled the blaze.

Perthshire North MSP John Swinney said: “My thoughts are with all those affected by this fire, and I hope that everyone remains healthy.

"I am grateful for the care and skill of our emergency services, and I thank them for their quick response.”
