Residents evacuated from homes after man claimed to have explosives

  • Police were called to Stanstead Road in Catford , South London , on Wednesday night for an emergency welfare check on a flat occupant.
  • Specialist officers and negotiators engaged with a man, believed to be in his 20s, who claimed to possess explosives .
  • Residents on Stanstead Road were evacuated from their homes around 11:30pm and taken to the nearby Ladywell Centre, with the street remaining cordoned off for approximately 12 hours.
  • The man sustained several injuries and is currently in hospital in a critical condition.
  • The incident is not being treated as terror-related, and the Independent Office for Police Conduct has been notified.
