Residents evacuated from Glasgow Trongate flats after early morning fire

Residents were evacuated from their homes after a fire broke out at a block of flats in Glasgow this morning.

Fire crews were called to Parnie Street in the Trongate area of the city at around 1.35am in the early hours.

Three pumps and an aerial unit rushed to the scene to tackle the inferno for around five hours.

They still remain on the scene.

It's not known at this time if anyone was injured as a result of the fire.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Services spokeswoman told the Record : "We were called to reports of a property fire in Parnie Street, Glasgow around 1.35am this morning.

"Three pumps and an aerial unit were mobilised to the scene.

"Residents were evacuated and we remain on the scene at this time."
