Residents evacuated after fire breaks out in Pontypridd flats

Residents were evacuated from a block of flats after a fire broke out in Pontypridd.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they were alerted to a fire in at Glanfelin, Hawthorn, at around 8.43pm on Wednesday, April 8.

A spokeswoman for the fire service said: "Crews from Pontypridd and Caerphilly attended the scene and extinguished the fire and assisted in the extrication of occupants who were conveyed to hospital.

"A stop message was received at 11.10pm."

According to an eyewitness, the fire broke out in a first floor flat and residents were evacuated.

She said that as well as the fire engines, two ambulances and police were on the scene to control witnesses and make sure that social distancing was taking place.
