Residents 'desperate' for footpath on dangerous main road in Gedling

People are desperate for a footpath along a narrow main road in Gedling as they say it is 'notoriously dangerous'.

Catfoot Lane is avoided by local walkers as there is no public footpath along the long, narrow road.

Lorraine Parker, 55, support worker, thinks a footpath is vital for locals.

She said: "It's notoriously dangerous for local people.

"I just drive through instead of walking as it it looks very tricky.

"When you see people walking it looks terrifying.

"The road is so narrow and there is no room.

"People need a footpath."

The road, with a national speed limit, has forced people who work along the lane to drive instead of walk.

Harriet Smith, 21, recent law graduate, explained that she is in walking distance of her workplace at Floralands Garden Centre but refuses to because of safety.

She said: "It's really bad, people need somewhere they can walk safely.

"There isn't even a verge you can step on, you have to walk in the road sometimes.

"I definitely think a footpath is needed, children and families trying to walk that way is an issue.

"It sounds dramatic but it is awful."

Belinda Pickering, 42, a worker at Floralands Garden Centre, added: "The road is bendy so no cars can see you coming.

"Especially on dark mornings, people coming to work, it is really dangerous.

"I wouldn't walk it, cars fly round.

"Since lockdown more people are walking, people walking along it are risking their lives."

Wanda Ball, 59, who works at Blossom Cafe, thinks a footpath is a good idea.

She said: "People still use it to walk dogs and to get to the cafe.

"A footpath is necessary, cars speed up and down it.

"People have to walk on the road which is dangerous, especially when it is windy.

"People use it a lot and if there was footpath people would use it much more"

Nottingham County Council has been approached for a comment.
