Excitement is building up in Carlton over a new takeaway that could 'refresh' the area.
Plans have been validated on April 7 for a new hot takeaway to replace a betting office right in the 'heart of Carlton'.
It comes as residents said their market square needs a 'complete revamp' including more shops and facilities after many have shut.
Unemployed Simon Fowler, 59, said: "It is a bit shabby.
"I do not have takeaways, but it definitely needs something.
"It needs better shops, something that would attract people to come here because everything else is shutting down."
Many have echoed Mr Fowler's concerns about the empty buildings in Carlton square and lack of choice for shoppers.
Retired Pat Hawkings, of Station Road, 72, said: "There are many other takeaways in the area.
"I do not think that another one will revive the area.
Ms Hawkings added that she is disappointed with the local shopping scene and wants more from her city.
She added: "I hate the way they are closing Nottingham down.
"I find it relaxing to go and have a look in shops, even if I do not buy anything.
"I do not know if a takeaway is enough, and it could potentially attract anti-social behaviour."
Retired Trish Badford, of Western Lane, 61, has also shared her concerns about the new plans.
She said: "This area just needs revamping and I am not sure if a new takeaway is enough.
"It could attract anti-social behaviour, unfortunately."
Cabin crew Saima Ali, of Colwick, 41, added: "A takeaway is better than a betting office.
"This place needs more businesses because it is just a dead space at the minute.
"Regardless if people will use the takeaway or not, we need more things like this in the area.
"The shoppers are the ones who generate revenue, so we need more businesses.
"It is better for the local economy as well."
