Residents concerned after 'huge smoke' plumed into homes following house fire in New Basford

'Worried' residents have spoken of the house fire that occurred last night (June 1) in New Basford.

It is after fire engines were called at the scene just before 10pm on Tuesday to evacuate people from the house and neighbouring properties.

Crews from Stockhill, West Bridgford and Hucknall Fire Station attended the incident on Beech Avenue.

East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) and Nottinghamshire Police were also at the scene as one person was taken to the hospital following the incident.

Residents on the same road where the incident has occurred on Beech Avenue said they have noticed a 'huge smoke' coming from one of the houses last night.

IT consultant Prateek Tripathi, 33, said: "My fire alarms went off because of the huge smoke coming from outside.

"I was not too scared, because there were fire engines and police last night and they know how to do their job.

"I had one of them coming into my house as well to check why my alarm went off.

"Luckily it stopped after I have opened the windows."

Mr Tripathi, who lives just two doors away from where the fire has started, added: "I saw a lot of people outside last night, a lot of smoke and evacuees being handed oxygen masks.

"The huge smoke was coming from inside and then into our houses too."

Ben Waymark, a computer programmer living on the same road, 48, said: "I did not notice it until the fire engines were already here.

"It did not seem like anyone got hurt because the forces moved quite fast."

Amazon worker David Samuel, 20, added: "I was out so I did not know until the fire until I came back at about 1am.

"I obviously saw the fire engines and the smoke.

"It could have been much worse, there could have been an explosion - we need to be careful."
