Residents concerned about roadworks at busy Nottingham junction will be a "nightmare"

Residents have said that roadworks at a busy Nottingham junction will be a "nightmare".

There will be a lane closure at the Edwards Lane junction with Hucknall Road from the roundabout at Hucknall Road to the traffic signal controlled crossing on Saturday, November 13 and Sunday, November 14 and then Saturday, November 20 and Sunday, November 21.

The works are to allow for a tree to be felled and a cycleway to be constructed.

People who live and work in the area said that the already busy junction will be made even worse while the construction takes place.

Tiufic Ozturk, 45, from Basford who is currently unemployed, said: "It is a nightmare already without the closure, people do not want to be sitting in a lot of traffic for another hour after work. It takes so long.

"I had a heart attack so I have to come to the hospital and it is no wonder people have heart attacks with these roadworks.

"People moan about it, why didn't they do it when the children weren't at school or during Covid.

Georgia Reynold, 18, who works in the NHS, said: "It can be quite bad down here with people waiting around in queues.

"I walk to work so I am glad that I don't drive as my friends sometimes get stuck in it.

"Lots of people moan about it and that will probably get worse with the roadworks."

Wayne Turton, 46, a building contractor from Nottingham, said: "People say that it is a nightmare, thankfully I use public transport so I don't have to drive in myself.

"There's quite a few roadworks around this area so it does slow people down getting where they want to be.

"The junction is really bad for traffic, even I know that and I don't drive around here a lot.

"I'm sure my mates will be moaning about it even more than usual."

The roadworks are expected to begin at 6.30am and be finished by 5.30pm each day.

The works are being carried out by Nottingham City Council and motorists were previously pre-warned about the work, in case they lead to delays.
