Residents can learn more about new Ravenscraig schools during online meetings

Parents and other residents will have to find out more about proposed new schools in Ravenscraig online rather than at a public meeting.

Due to increased restrictions applied locally and nationally to minimise risks associated with Covid-19, the public meeting that was due to take place last week at the Ravenscraig Sports Facility was cancelled.

This meeting has been replaced by two online public meetings to be held via WebEx.

Both meetings will accommodate up to 50 attendees.

The meeting to consult on the proposals to alter non-denominational catchment areas and a new-build non-denominational Primary School in the Ravenscraig area will take place on Wednesday from 7pm to 8.30pm.

The meeting to consult on the proposals to alter denominational catchment areas and a new-build denominational primary school will take place on Wednesday, October 28, from 7pm to 8.30pm.

Motherwell South East and Ravenscraig councillor Kenneth Duffy said: “I’m delighted that real progress is now being made on what is one of the biggest issues facing my constituents.

“New schools and nursery classes are sorely needed by families across Ravenscraig in order to fully support the council’s ambitious plans for the area and it is my hope that these proposals are backed by council.”

At the end of the consultation process, two reports will be prepared for North Lanarkshire Council detailing all responses received, summaries of their content and a statement from Education Scotland on the educational aspects of the proposal.

The council’s education convener Frank McNally said: “Ravenscraig is thriving with thousands of new homes, a college, a sports facility, new businesses and a public park, which will open in the autumn.

“These exciting proposals to create new high quality schools for our young people will further enhance the area.

“It illustrates our drive to transform communities across North Lanarkshire.”

Questions should be submitted in advance of the meetings to Ravenscraigconsultation@Northlan.gov.uk
