Firefighters are bracing for dangerous conditions with scorching temperatures expected after fires threatened homes in a capital city.

Total fire bans are in place as authorities warn of extreme conditions in the areas surrounding Perth in Western Australia.

Emergency warnings were downgraded on Friday morning, but residents are cautioned that conditions are changeable and urged to stay alert.

Challenging conditions are expected to continue with a hot and dry weekend ahead for the west.

"Perth is looking at a mostly sunny day, really starting to warm up again, 35 degrees, a little bit cool along the coast, with those southerly winds, but warm to hot across the remaining parts of the state," meteorologist Jonathan How said.

Emergency warnings were issued on Thursday for blazes in Perth's south and northeast, which were downgraded to watch and act.

Conditions were "really difficult", WA Department of Fire and Emergency Services Assistant Commissioner Danny Monsconi said.

"We've got wind speeds of around 20km/h, but they're gusting up to 50 kilometres," he told ABC Radio on Thursday afternoon.

"So pretty challenging."

Power supply was disrupted to homes and businesses after damage from the Thursday fire in Kenwick in Perth's southeast.

Western Power's network operations centre restored power to the majority of customers overnight and will work to repair the network throughout Friday.

Extreme fire danger is forecast for districts including Yarra Yarra, Karroun, Lockwood, Mortlock and Avon.
