Residents blame Lenton tram stop for surge in accidents

Residents who live directly outside a tram stop blame its location for multiple accidents and wish it had never been built.

Gregory Street Tram Stop, Lenton, is part of the Toton Lane line and is situated on street track within Lenton Lane, close to that lane's junction with Abbey Street and Gregory Street.

On October 17, police attended a crash at the stop where a pedestrian was hit by a car.

Roz Lowe, 71, of Gregory Street, thinks the introduction of the tram stop three years ago is the main cause for accidents on the road.

She said: "Since the stop has been here there have been three accidents.

"One where a car flipped over.

"It's terrible, cars come down here so fast and sometimes just tear across.

"People skid on the metal tracks.

"It is very dangerous.

"We don't seem to have a voice."

Mrs Lowe continued to explain how when the plans for the tram stop to be built started, many residents objected about its location.

She said: "We asked for it to be further down away from residential houses.

"Just move it, people can still access it.

"The foundations of the road are an issue, it was bad enough with just lorries but now the trams.

"It's concerning about the foundation of our properties."

Paul Batterbee, 65, who has lived on Gregory Street for 30 years, agrees that the tram stop is causing incidents.

He said: ""There was another accident last year.

"Cars always go wrong way down here and come speeding.

"This road is very dangerous because of the tram lines.

"Something needs to be done."

Other residents also highlighted issues with noise, saying they can hear the tram at all hours.

One resident said: "It is really bad as it is very noisy.

"We did ask NET for double glazing but they refused.

"We have had a few accidents because of it, if you don't know the road you'd follow the tram lines.

"The tram also makes it harder to get in and out of your drive.

"It also gets very busy as a stop, we wish it wasn't here."

Nottingham City Council have been approached for a comment.
