Residents awoken to an explosion as car 'erupts into flames' on street

Dramatic video footage shows the moment a car went up in flames in a Swansea street during the early hours of Monday morning.

Residents of Caemawr Estate, Morriston, woke to the sound of loud bangs and emergency services at around 5am on September 14.

Alix Jones, 37, who lives nearby said it erupted into a "huge fire".

He said: "I got woken up by an explosion and thought I was in a dream. A few seconds later there was another loud bang - I think it might have been the tyres - followed by a few smaller explosions.

"I went outside to see a huge flame ball where the front half of the car was and the fire crews fighting to put it out.

"[A neighbour] said when he looked out it was a small fire in front half of the car but suddenly erupted into a huge fire."

Mr Jones added that the car had been removed by about 7am.

A spokeswoman from Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said crews were called to the fire at 5.12am on Monday morning.

She said the fire is believed to have started deliberately, but the cause is unknown.

South Wales Police were also in attendance.
