Resident who complained about noise in Weston-super-Mare flats was stabbed in the head

When a night worker complained about daytime noise at his flats he was stabbed in the head.

Gabriel Brzezik was trying to sleep but remonstrated with a neighbour about being disturbed.

Bristol Crown Court heard that, shortly after, there was a knock at his door in Victoria Park Flats, Weston-super-Mare.

As the door was opened the neighbour's friend, Kurt Jordan, used a large blade to stab Brzezik in the side of his head.

Jordan, 40, of Upper Church Road in Weston-super-Mare, pleaded guilty to wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm in August.

The Recorder of Bristol His Honour Judge Peter Blair QC was due to sentence Jordan today (November 13, 2019).

He indicated that, in his view, the assault was so serious it may qualify for a sentencing bracket with a starting point of 12 years' custody.

But the judge was told further investigations are being made into the incident.

He adjourned sentence until 2pm on December 12 and remanded Jordan in custody.

Emma Martin, prosecuting, said Mr Brzezik complained about noise "in no uncertain terms".

Afterwards there was a knock at his door and he opened it.

Mr Brzezik made a statement in which he recounted: "All I remember is seeing something come down from above and feeling pain from the side of my head."

When he quickly closed his door he saw blood on his hands and released his glasses were bent from where a knife had hit them.

He was left with a 12cm long cut at his hairline which needed to be stitched.

Mrs Martin said Jordan and two others - all in drink - were arrested in a nearby park.

Jordan denied being anything to do with the assault and, when interviewed, continued the denial.

The victim and his friend both picked out Jordan from a video identity parade.

Mr Brzezik made an impact statement saying he was left with pain and headaches and a fear a resultant scar would negatively impact people's perception of him.
