Resident slams 'disgusting' piles of rubbish dumped on street... and it's attracting rats

The problem is so bad that it's attracting rats.

Bags of waste are regularly dumped in an alleyway in Gorton, and it's causing a nightmare for people who live there.

Offenders often pull up in their cars and throw the rubbish in the direction of the bins on Bramhall Street, a resident says.

It has caused bin bags to explode, leaving a 'disgusting' mess all over the floor.

There are concerns about health and safety due to the ongoing problem.

Kayleigh Crowther shared photos of the overflowing bins on Friday morning.

She said: "This is beginning to be a health and safety issue.

"It's the same every week, with different car pulling up and throwing their rubbish all over.

"Rats have been seen it's absolutely disgusting."

She told the Manchester Evening News: "It's the same every week, as soon as they have been emptied that night they are full again and spilling out all over the floor."

The issue will be investigated, a Manchester City councillor said.

Executive Member for Neighbourhoods, Councillor Rabnawaz Akbar, said: "Our teams have been incredibly stretched throughout lockdown to ensure that vital services can be delivered for our residents.

"It is always disappointing when flytipping takes place, but given the circumstances selfish acts such as this are particularly infuriating.

"We are now working to remove this waste and will investigate to try and catch the perpetrators.

"I would ask anyone in the community who sees a flytip to report it to us as soon as possible by going to  www.manchester.gov.uk/flytipping, so that we can remove these blights from our communities."
