Resident hits out at the state of Dumbarton bridge

A Dumbarton resident has hit out at the state of the railway bridge at the town’s Central Station - which recently underwent a £1.3million revamp.

The concerned local, who wishes to remain anonymous, contacted the Lennox Herald to express her concerns about the bridge, which links Dumbarton Common with the town centre, and is a key route for pupils at Braehead Primary School.

According to her a leaky pipe is saturating the pavement near the pedestrian crossing, making it potentially dangerous.

Her comments come just months after a £1.3million refurbishment project was completed on the structure, which closed the busy route for 10 weeks between January and March.

However the resident has questioned the quality of the improvements.

She said: “People are asking who passed this job.

“If I’m out walking with a buggy then that’s the route I take to the town.

“To the left of the pedestrian crossing is a burst pipe that just soaks the pavement.

“The surface is slippery even at this time of year, and an elderly person could easily fall. It’s going to be an absolute ice-trap by winter.

“Above that it doesn’t look good - it’s really quite unpleasant.

“You’d think after being shut for all that time it would be a nice environment, but no. It badly needs a lot of work.”

Network Rail were contacted for comment but did not respond.
