Resident groups hope community pressure can end Tesco threat to Dalymount Park revamp

Resident groups hope mounting community pressure will end the threat of Tesco scuppering plans to redevelop Phibsborough Shopping Centre.

And that would allow the preferred redevelopment for Dalymount Park to remain on track.

Tesco and MM Capital - owners of Phibsborough Shopping Centre - are in dispute over the rights of way for the supermarket giants’ delivery trucks.

That threatened to derail plans for a joint development of the site along with the adjoining Dalymount Park, owned by Dublin City Council (DCC).

But Mirror Sport has learned that a compromise could soon be reached following public pleas from Bohs, Shelbourne, community and resident groups.

In October, DCC unveiled plans for a new 6,000-seater stadium costing approximately €30 million with construction due to start after the 2020 season.

The hope is that Bohs and Shels will then groundshare at the new stadium in 2023, with the two clubs sharing Tolka Park in the meantime.

Tonight, the Gypsies host UCD at Dalymount and midfielder Keith Ward does not envy Keith Long’s job of picking the team.

Bohs are riding high, level on points with second-placed Derry City and Ward said:

“No matter who he picks, there’ll be lads in the stand who feel they should be starting.

"UCD are 10 games in now and they’ll know a lot about themselves and about the division compared to when we last played them.

"They’ve come on a lot already and will keep improving. They like to play the right way and will be tough opposition.”
