'Resident Evil Requiem' Returns to Its Roots in Raccoon City in Time for 30th Anniversary

It is no longer a secret that "Resident Evil Requiem" is making its return to the place where it all started, Raccoon City, and Capcom has revealed that there is a reason behind it.

This decision coincides with the upcoming 30th anniversary celebration of the franchise, which released its first "Resident Evil" game in 1996.

The almost 30-year run of the famed horror action game saw it take players to different storylines and plots exploring the world of "Resident Evil," but it is now time to make its grand return to its home.

'Resident Evil Requiem' to Return to Raccoon City

In a recent interview by the PlayStation Blog with producer Masato Kumazawa, it was revealed that there is a significant reason begind why Capcom and its team decided to take users back to Raccoon City in "Resident Evil Requiem."

The "Requiem" in the title alone is a nod to all of the people lost in the Raccoon City incident, according to Kumazawa. The best way to showcase a game that is a "remembrance" for all of the people who perished during this incident is to take gamers back to its origin, which is none other than Raccoon City.

This place is best known not only be the setting of the original game but also as the birthplace of the tyrant virus (T-virus), which set the story for the "Resident Evil" franchise.

The producer also revealed how Grace Ashcroft ties into the story, claiming how she is significantly related to Raccoon City, the place that caused the loss of her mother, Alyssa, a previous protagonist in two "Resident Evil" games.

In the upcoming game, Grace is drawn to Raccoon City to investigate her mother's death as she processes her grief eight years later.

'Resident Evil' 30th Anniversary Is Nearing

According to Gizmodo, Kumazawa also revealed that the game is right in time for the celebration of the "Resident Evil" franchise's 30th anniversary, which will take place next year.

The game is set to release on February 27, 2026, placing it at the perfect time for the franchise's anniversary.

Apart from its fateful return to Raccoon City, the team also wants to give players a chance to explore the secrets behind the devious Umbrella Corporation, which started the problems met by Raccoon City and its citizens all these years ago.
