'Resident Evil' Insider Unveils Rumored Next Remake After 'Code Veronica'—Which Game Is It?

"Resident Evil's" next remake, the one after the "Code: Veronica" remake, has been leaked by an insider who claims that it is already under development by the company and has been so for a long time.

It is important to note that "Resident Evil: Veronica," the new name of the upcoming remake of the 26-year-old game, was recently confirmed by Capcom. No other remake has been confirmed as of writing.

Next 'Resident Evil' Remake Unveiled by Insider

Capcom's "Resident Evil" remake pipeline is busier than ever, and a trusted insider is now revealing what comes after "Resident Evil: Veronica."

According to insider Dusk Golem, the next game coming from Capcom's series of remakes is none other than the 2002 survival horror game, "Resident Evil Zero." The insider said that Capcom is still working on the remake of this specific game.

Rumors of "Resident Evil Zero" getting a remake treatment of its own have been circling for quite some time, so it is not a shock to hear that development on the project is ongoing. What is new information, however, is that this remake of "RE0" is claimed to have been rebooted within Capcom, suggesting that the company ran into some difficulties when remaking the game, which led to it essentially starting over from scratch.

Dusk Golem also noted that Capcom's Division 1 team is the one working on this remake following the reboot. This is notable because it confirms that Capcom is now solely working on the project internally rather than outsourcing any part of its development to outside partners.

That same strategy was used with the previous remake of "Resident Evil 3: Nemesis," which went on to become the worst-reviewed Resident Evil remake so far, suggesting Capcom wants to be more hands-on this time around.

'Resident Evil: Veronica' Remake Coming

Before any of the "RE0" remake news becomes relevant to players, "Resident Evil: Veronica" has to come first. Capcom officially confirmed the remake earlier this month, targeting a 2027 release. It follows "RE2," "RE3," and "RE4" as the fourth major remake in the franchise over the past decade, continuing the studio's methodical approach to revisiting classic entries in the series.

Based on the leak, the "Resident Evil Zero" remake would logically follow "Veronica" in Capcom's lineup, potentially arriving as the publisher's primary franchise release for 2028. No official release window has been shared for the project.

'Resident Evil' Expands Game Lineup

Capcom's "Resident Evil" output has been remarkably consistent across recent years. "Resident Evil Requiem" released earlier this year to solid numbers, and the franchise continues to build momentum on multiple fronts.

A free DLC mode titled "Leon Must Die Forever" arrived shortly after launch, adding a roguelike challenge experience that pushed the difficulty well beyond what the base game offered. A full story expansion is also confirmed to be in development, though insiders suggest it will not arrive until after "Resident Evil: Veronica" launches in 2027.

Looking even further ahead, earlier leaks pointed to "Resident Evil 10" already being in early pre-production at Capcom. While the mainline "Resident Evil" series will surely be continuing onward with "Resident Evil 10," Capcom intends to remake another entry in the franchise as well.

Reports have also suggested that the next mainline game could be set in Japan, with the country being a setting that even Capcom's own producers have hinted an interest in exploring for the franchise.

With a "Code Veronica" remake, an "RE0" remake in development, story DLC for "Requiem," and a tenth mainline entry somewhere down the road, "Resident Evil" is not slowing down anytime soon.
