Resident Evil 4 trailer and other Resident Evil showcase reveals

The Resident Evil showcase has come and gone, and with it, an in-depth look at Resident Evil 4 remake and much more. Some of that “more” includes a snippet of what to expect in the upcoming Resident Evil Village “Winter’s Expansion” DLC and a look at Capcom’s plans for the multiplayer game Resident Evil Re:Verse and its apparently extensive future and plans for early access if you own Resident Evil Village.

While there wasn’t any mention of a Resident Evil 4 demo, you can check out our hands-on impressions of Resident Evil 4 and some of the welcome changes Capcom made in bringing the survival horror classic to life for modern audiences.

Resident Evil 4 remake footage

Capcom provided an extensive look at Resident Evil 4’s opening segments, including a reworked village scene and a knife fight against Dr. Salvador and his gruesome chainsaw. While much of the village looks familiar, Capcom said the Ganado will fight back in different ways, providing a fresh experience even for those who are more than familiar with how Resident Evil 4 plays.

If you want to make note of what’s new, we’ve already tracked down the biggest differences between Resident Evil 4 remake and the original release.

Resident Evil 4 pre-orders are open

Capcom opened pre-orders for Resident Evil 4 remake, out Mar. 24, 2023, with three editions and some pre-order bonuses as well. The deluxe edition includes a treasure map and some in-game costumes, and it’ll be available for console and PC. The collector’s edition is physical only, so it won’t be available for PC, and it includes a Leon statue, art book, soundtrack, and more.

Pre-order bonuses include special attache cases for use in the game, along with charms to deceorate it with, such as a handgun ammo charm.

Resident Evil Village DLC update

Capcom didn’t show much that we haven’t already seen with the Winters’ Expansion DLC, but director Kento Kinoshita did provide some insights into what the team hopes to achieve with it. Kinoshita said they want to inspire a sense of fear with Rose’s story that’s similar to the kind of nightmare that haunts people even years after the dream fades. Rose faces a similar nightmare herself as she ventures back to the village in the Realm of Consciousness to confront her past.

A free update for the game will add third-person mode to Resident Evil Village – though you can’t see Ethan’s face even if you turn the camera. Kinoshita said the team wants to help people who might be put off by a first-person perspective, either because it’s too scary or the motion is difficult to deal with, still enjoy the game.

A new Resident Evil Village gameplay demo is live now on all platforms and lets you play an hour of the game in third-person mode.

Resident Evil Re:Verse will have post-launch content

Resident Evil Re:Verse is alive and launches the same day as the Winters’ Expansion, Oct. 28, 2022. This multiplayer twist on the Resident Evil formula pits survivors against killers in heated battles set in iconic locations throughout the series, such as the Raccoon City police station and the Bakers’ house.

Capcom plans at least four post-launch updates to add new characters and challenges, and if you own Resident Evil Village and can’t wait to try Re:Verse, you’re in luck. Owners of Village get early access to the game starting Oct. 24, 2022.

More Resident Evil news
