Resident Evil 3: reviews on the remake and where to pre-order for the PS4 and Xbox One

The third installment of the Resident Evil franchise has been given a next-generation makeover.

Resident Evil 3: Nemesis is widely regarded as one of the PlayStation 1's greatest triumphs.

First released in 1999, it received unanimously positive reviews with an overall aggregated percentage of 88% from gaming publications across the UK and US.

In the context of its decade, the game was lauded for it's immersive detail that transported users into "totally destroyed city streets" , as described by IGN editor Doug Perry, with "crashed cars, rubbish and rubble [...] scattered broken glass and debris, all housed in a suburban area that truly looks devastated in the worst possible way."

In the game, players control protagonist Jill Valentine as she attempts to navigate her way out of 'Raccoon City' where most of the population has been transformed into zombies following the outbreak of the T-Virus.

Just over two decades on, the game has been revamped - just as the previous two in the series have been since 2016 - with enhanced visuals and remastered sound effects.

Early reviews on the remake are largely favourable, with most noting that it marked the end of Resident Evil's glory years before a marked decline between Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 7 .

The game will be released this Friday, April 3, with an early RRP of £49.99. Click here to view it on Amazon.

If you're looking for a smaller investments, remakes of previous titles now start from as low as £14.99.
