Resident claims North Ayrshire Council have ignored overflowing bins for two months

A furious Irvine resident claims bins at an emergency accommodation property have been ignored by the council for two months.

The previous tenant in Burns Crescent was said to have left on Monday, March 1 – with piles of rubbish crammed in the bins and lying on the ground.

Vodka bottles, carpet and a computer chair were strewn outside the property.

One neighbour claims to have reported the eyesore twice to North Ayrshire Council twice but believes his pleas have been ignored.

The individual, who asked not to be named, said: "It's a disgusting state the council has left it in. It's emergency housing and they never cleared the bins for the new tenant coming in.

"They shouldn't have allowed someone to move in when the bins were in that mess.

"The new tenant can't get their bins out and it's obviously going to attract the rats. The birds have been picking at it and already burst the bin bags.

"It's not nice for any of us to walk out and see."

A spokesperson for North Ayrshire Council said: “Thank you for bringing this to our attention. For bins to be emptied they need to be presented at the kerbside for collection.

"We will look into this matter and make arrangements to have the bin/s emptied as soon as possible.”
