Reshad Jones returns, says he’s ready to play in Miami

Miami Dolphins safety Reshad Jones made his first appearance with the 2019 offseason program yesterday — arriving just in time for the Dolphins’ first mandatory mini-camp. There’s been much speculation on whether or not Jones is going to be a part of the Dolphins’ future, whether by his doing or the Dolphins. But Jones threw some cold water on the fire after the day’s workout session, sucking the energy out of the situation — for now.

Jones isn’t focused on forcing a trade, he’s only focused on getting ready for 2019.

“I’ve seen (the rumors) and I’ve heard of it but I control what I (can) control. I’m in great shape. I’m still one of the best safeties in this league and whatever happens, happens,” said Jones. “I’m here, I love this city, I love the fans. I’d love to be a part of the Dolphins organization.”

What can Jones control? His health. And that was his primary motivation for staying away from the Dolphins as long as he did — not because of any malcontent with the team. Jones told the media yesterday that his shoulder surgery was in February and due to the voluntary nature of workouts prior to yesterday, Jones wanted to emphasize getting healthy to help him play for 16 games this season.

Coming into the day yesterday, the ball was in Jones’ court — if he wanted off the team, this would be his opportunity to really kickstart that process. By not showing up or using his time with the media to speak about any dissatisfaction, Jones could have turned up the heat and tried to prompt the Dolphins to move him. That is, of course, if that is what the Dolphins intend to do.

But instead, Jones spoke of preparing for 2019, being excited by Flores’ extensive playbook and wanting to help the Dolphins win. The ball is now in your court, Miami.
