WELLINGTON (Reuters) - The Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ) said on Tuesday it had appointed a member of its financial markets team, Yuong Ha, as its new chief economist.

Ha, who will take up the position on April 29, first joined the central bank in 1997 and is currently the acting head of the Financial Markets Department, the RBNZ said in a statement.

It also announced that another bank official, Vanessa Rayner would become the permanent head of the Financial Markets Department.

"Both ... have broad central banking backgrounds, clear leadership capabilities and experience, and the ability to connect and collaborate," said Assistant Governor Christian Hawkesby.
