Reservation Dogs looks like it could be this year's best new comedy

In films like Hunt for the Wilderpoeple, Boy and What We Do In The Shadows, director Taika Waititi firmly established himself as a comedic tour-de-force that fully embraced his New Zealand and Māori humour.

It wasn't long before Hollywood came calling and rather than toe the line or adapt to some formulaic comedy style, Waititi infused Thor: Ragnarok and Jojo Rabbit with the madcap sense of humour that served him so well.

After winning an Oscar for Jojo Rabbit, the director has a bit of extra clout in the field and he's turned his attention to producing and co-creating a new comedy with Sterlin Harjo, Reservation

Reservation Dogs is a half-hour comedy that follows the exploits of four indigenous teenagers in rural Oklahoma who steal, rob and save in order to get to the exotic, mysterious and faraway land of California.

The coming-of-age story is about four Native American teenagers growing up on a reservation in eastern Oklahoma who spend their days committing crimes and fighting it.

Having looked at the trailer, you can see Waititi's trademark style all over it.

For example, a bunch of outcast kids who rebel against the system, wonderful characters that are defined by the small community they live in, a few pop-culture nuggets thrown in and well, dancing.

Reservation Dogs will start streaming from August 9 in the US and it willalso be available to watch in Ireland on Disney + via Star.
