A research chemist who worked in the field for 30 to 40 years died in hospital from an infection, an inquest heard.
David Bell, 84, had been in Bassetlaw District General Hospital in Worksop.
He was admitted with a fever and increasing oxygen requirements, the hearing in Nottingham's Council House was told on Thursday, August 19.
Mr Bell, a non-smoker, continued to deteriorate and did not respond to intravenous antibiotics.
He died on July 21 this year from a respiratory tract infection.
Gordon Clow, assistant coroner for Nottinghamshire, told family members that what a doctor was saying was that Mr Bell was known to have a long-term lung disease. This led to a respiratory tract infection.
Mr Bell worked in research departments with polishing powders for spectacle lenses.
Mr Clow asked family members, who joined the inquest virtually, if Mr Bell had made any claims of any sort?
The reply was: "No, he didn't want to".
Mr Clow's conclusion was "industrial disease" and "his life was brought short by the work he did".
He offered his condolences and best wishes to the family.
