Rescuers rush to help after elderly woman injures head and face on the Sugar Loaf

Rescuers rushed to the Sugar Loaf on Sunday after an elderly woman was injured on the mountain.

The 70-year-old sustained a head and facial injury while walking.

An Garda Síochána alerted the Dublin and Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team and Glen of Imaal Red Cross at approximately 2:30pm.

The woman was assessed and treated by Mountain Rescue Medics and Dublin Fire Brigade Paramedic before being moved by Mountain Rescue personnel to another location for the Rescue 116 helicopter to perform a winch rescue.

The rescue team was stood down at 16:44hrs.

A spokesperson for the mountain rescue team said on Facebook: "At 14:31hrs, Dublin & Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team and Glen of Imaal Red Cross were tasked by An Garda Síochána for a 70yr old female who sustained a head and facial injury while out walking on the Sugar Loaf.

"The casualty was assessed and treated by Mountain Rescue Medics and Dublin Fire Brigade Paramedic.

"After the patient was immobilized, she was then moved by Mountain Rescue personnel to another location for Rescue 116 to perform a winch rescue.

"Team was stood down at 16:44hrs. Thank you to all the agencies involved."
