The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) plans to offer Thailand Elite Cards as gifts to show their appreciation to the foreign volunteers that worked on the successful rescue mission for the 12 boys and their coach trapped inside Tham Luang cave.
TAT governor Yuthasak Supasorn said cardholders will be granted visas and general privileges, including immigration and airport services for five years.
They will also be able to return here to take a pleasure trip arranged by TAT.
Hundreds of volunteers came to help the boys, with over 50 from foreign countries such as Britain, the US, China, Australia, Japan, Laos and Myanmar.
Mr Yuthasak said the cards will probably be sent to their hometowns via either Thai embassies or TAT offices abroad, as many of them already returned home after the rescue effort was completed on Tuesday.
TAT is the major shareholder of the Elite Card, which is managed by the Thailand Privileged Card Co. The card is issued to attract investors, businesspeople and entrepreneurs to invest here.
Tourism and Sports Minister Weerasak Kowsurat said details of the Elite Card offerings will be discussed at the ministry's next meeting.
Yesterday TAT held a thank you event for divers from England, who were scheduled to fly home last night. The event took them to visit popular places in Chiang Rai such as Wat Rong Khun, and meet with famous Thai visual artist Chalermchai Kositpipat, who designed the temple. Mr Chalermchai also gave some of his drawings to the divers.
