Rescuer plunges to death from 2,625ft after both parachutes failed to open

A highly-trained aviation paramedic rescuer died after plunging from 2,625ft when both his parachutes failed to open.

Distressing footage shows the 35-year-old, named as Mikhail Prokhorov by a friend, jumping from an Mi-8 helicopter in Russia.

He plummeted from a height of 2,625ft and was seriously injured when he fell to the ground.

Doctors said he died at the scene.

When the paramedic's main parachute failed to open during the jump, he tried to use the reserve one, but its straps became tangled in the other, it is reported.

The parachute's lanyard got "caught on his neck", according to Russian media.

The experienced paramedic used to work in the Russian rescue service in the Urals and this was his 35th jump.

His rescue team is based in Sverdlovsk region and deployed to aviation emergencies around Russia.

A probe into his death was started by the Russian Investigative Committee.

Friend Stanislav Kiselev posted: “My good friend Mikhail Prokhorov died.

"He was a bright and kind man, always ready to always come to the rescue.

“Performing his work, he had saved multiple lives.

“Mikhail, you will forever remain in my heart.”
