Rescue teams work together to treat man who fell on Roseberry Topping

A man on Roseberry Topping required assistance from emergency services yesterday evening, after falling and injuring his leg.

Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team, North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) and the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) all arrived at the scene, which was around three quarters of the way up the western side of Roseberry Topping, after being called out on Friday August 20 at 19.51pm.

The HART team were the first to arrive at the scene. They treated the casualty's suspected broken leg, before Cleveland Mountain Rescue arrived and placed him on a rescue stretcher, and "securely" packaged him in a casualty bag.

The mountain rescue team then faced a perilous trek back down, carrying the patient 40m down a steep section of the main path, then along a side track for approximately 200 metres, which involved climbing some uphill terrain.

They then transferred him into one of the team's Land Rovers, which was parked at an RV point, which took him across farmland to a waiting NEAS ambulance, which transferred him to hospital.

The incident lasted just under three hours.
