Rescue teams pull man from Bridgewater Canal in Old Trafford

Fire service rescue teams pulled a man to safety from the Bridgewater Canal.

Rescue crews scrambled to a section of the canal, near to Victoria Warehouse, on Trafford Wharf Road, in Old Trafford, just after 9pm last night.

Firefighters located the man and he was pulled out of the water to safety.

He was taken to hospital by the ambulance service.

A statement from Greater Manchester Police said: "We were called just after 9.05pm to the concern for welfare of a man.

"Emergency services attended. A man had gone into the canal.

"The fire service managed to get him out of the canal. He was taken to hospital."
