Rescue teams called in after family get into difficulty on Donegal mountain

Rescue teams were called in after a family got into difficulty while climbing a mountain in Co Donegal.

Volunteers rushed to the aid of the group on Mount Errigal last night.

The incident happened at around 5.25pm on Saturday.

The Donegal Mountain Rescue Team said that the family were "having difficulty" coming off the mountain.

However after a crew was dispatched to the scene, they helped the group down the hill.

And they confirmed that everybody is now "safe and well" after the scary incident.

The organisation wrote on Facebook: "Team were tasked at 17:24hrs to assist a family who were having difficulty coming off Errigal mountain.

"The family was located and met by DMRT on the hill, and were walked down to the team vehicles, with everybody safe and well. Team has now been stood down."

And the volunteer's efforts were met with appreciation by locals, who warned of the dangers of climbing the mountain unprepared.

One wrote: "Well done everyone a good result. A sudden sustained high wind can make Errigle a dangerous place. As the weather apps are not always 100% correct."

While another added: "You guys do brilliant work. Good for you all!!"
