Rescue operation under way as car gets into 'difficulty' in Nottinghamshire ford

The fire service has started a rescue operation after a car got into "difficulties" in a Nottinghamshire ford.

Water rescue crews from Newark and Edwinstowe attended the incident in Rufford just before 10am on Thursday, January 9.

It was reported a vehicle entered the ford but "got into difficulties".

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service has issued a warning.

It said: "Water rescue crews from are in attendance at a water rescue incident on Old Rufford Road, Rufford.

"A car had entered the ford and got into difficulties. Please be cautious when driving through flood water."

Calls have previously been made for clearer signs to be installed at the ford, following a number of incidents in September during heavy rainfall.

A number of vehicles have before been submerged in the ford which is near Rufford Abbey Country Park.

The Environment Agency has also warned just 30cm of flood water could lift a car's tyres off the road and sweep it away.
