Rescue mission as crane falls in London crushing terraced houses

A rescue mission is underway in London after a crane collapsed into houses.

London Fire Brigade said it was working to free people trapped in the crushed building.

The 20-metre crane fell onto terraced houses in Bow in east London, the fire service said.

It added that it had taken 14 999 calls to reports of the crane falling in Gale Street and urged people to avoid the area.

London Ambulance Service said it had a number of crews and a team of specialist paramedics who work in hazardous environments at the scene.

Videos posted on social media show at least two houses badly damaged by the crane.

The Metropolitan Police said it has received reports that four people have been injured.

The force said officers were called at around 2.39pm on Wednesday to Gale Street to a report of a crane that has collapsed into a residential property and a building site.
