Rescue deal for Black Country metal forging firm George Dyke

A historic Black Country metal forging specialist has been rescued out of administration.

Darlaston-based George Dyke has been bought out by RB Forgings (UK) which runs the Shakespeare Forgings site in Cradley Heath and is part of the India-based RB Group.

The deal has preserved 39 jobs.

Raj Mittal and Tony Barrell, from FRP Advisory in Birmingham, were appointed joint administrators of the company at the end of January after it had faced severe cash flow issues following a period of challenging trading conditions.

At the time, 30 staff were made redundant while around 40 more stayed on to help the business continue trading while administrators sought a buyer.

The company's roots date back to the mid-1800s after George Dyke was born in Birmingham in 1826 and later moved to live in Willenhall where he worked as a bolt maker.

RB Forgings said in a statement: "Our group is a collection of specialist businesses that place manufacturing excellence at the heart of their strategies in order to provide a best-in-class service to their clients.

"With its strong heritage, specialist teams and loyal customer base, George Dyke is a complementary addition to the group.

"This deal will strengthen our forgings arm in the UK and we look forward to working with the current team at George Dyke to support the growth of the business here in the West Midlands."

Mr Mittal added: "Not only does this deal save a number of jobs, it secures a future for a renowned forgemaster that has a rich heritage here in the West Midlands.

"I'd like to thank the firm's employees and its loyal customer base for their continued support throughout this process and wish the team the best of luck moving forward."

Avison Young, Higgs & Sons, Gordon Brothers and Pinsent Masons all advised on the deal.
