Rescue centre bids goodbye to dog who died of a brain tumour in heartfelt post

A rescue centre in Rhondda has shared a tribute to a poorly resident dog who passed away after suffering from a brain tumour.

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Charlie, had been ill for several months and was only diagnosed with the brain tumour in August.

Friends of Animals had been posting regular updates concerning Charlie’s health and he had developed quite a fan base, so much so that the final Facebook post has amassed over 1,500 likes and 323 comments so far.

The post reads: “We have some very sad news to share with you.

“Our beautiful, brave, handsome boy Charlie has left for Rainbow Bridge.

“He started having fits and despite their very best efforts the vets could not stop them.

Charlie had amassed quite a following on Friends of Animals' Facebook group (Friends of Animals Wales)

“He was helped on his way and his foster mum and all the team are heartbroken.

“Because all of you took him to your hearts we were able to do everything possible but sadly we couldn’t save him.

“The only consolation we have is that he knew endless love and compassion in his last weeks and whilst it should have been longer we think he absolutely knew how much love there was for him.

“RIP gorgeous boy. You will not be forgotten."

Commenters have been quick to share their condolences and send love to the rescue centre and Charlie’s foster home.

One person cited Mahatma Gandhi, saying: “Thinking of you all - you amazing, kind and compassionate people. Charlie will watch over you all always from the Bridge.

Charlie was being treated by Maes Glas and The Ralph in Buckinghamshire (Friends of Animals)

“‘There are no goodbyes for us - wherever you are - you will live forever in my heart.’”

Another said: “I’m devastated. Been looking for updates on Charlie regularly and to see we’ve lost him has broken my heart, looks so much like my boy Bailey who went over Rainbow Bridge last year.”

A third said: “I’m so glad he knew what true love was during his last weeks. Run free beautiful boy.”

Charlie was being treated by a combination of The Ralph Veterinary Hospital in Marlow Buckinghamshire and Maes Glas in the Valleys, but after fighting for so long he has finally crossed the rainbow bridge.

Sleep well, Charlie.
