Rescue 116 team called in after two teenagers get into difficulty while swimming in Meath

The Rescue 116 helicopter was required late on Tuesday evening after two teenage girls got into difficulty while swimming.

The pair were having a dip in Corstown Lough near the border between Louth and Meath at around 10.45pm.

However, they found themselves in a bit of bother, but luckily the authorities were quick to respond.

Gardaí were assisted by the Rescue 116 helicopter in their search as visibility was slowly worsening.

The pair were recovered from the water and were taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda for medical assessment.

A Garda spokeswoman said: "Gardaí attended the scene of an incident at Corstown Lough in Co. Meath yesterday evening, Tuesday 29th June 2021.

"Two female youths were recovered from the water. The Coast Guard helicopter assisted in locating the females as visibility was poor.

"Both were taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda for medical assessment."
