Newt Gingrich
(Picture: GETTY IMAGES)A Republican politician appeared to support the racist ‘great replacement theory’ about immigrants ‘replacing’ the indigenous population of America.
In an interview with Fox Business’ Maria Bartiromo, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Mexican immigrants travelling to the country amid rising Covid-19 cases and low job numbers did nothing to represent “traditional, classic Americans.”
Newt Gingrich is the latest on Fox to go full great replacement theory: The left is bringing immigrants to the United States “to get rid of the rest of us” (ht @EricKleefeld) pic.twitter.com/C0We3CgUKH

“They don’t come all the way across Mexico for the purpose of visiting for two days. They want to be in America.
“The anti-American left would love to drown traditional, classic Americans with as many people as they can who know nothing of American history, nothing of American tradition, nothing of the rule of law,” he said.
“When you go and look at the radical left, this is their ideal model. It’s to get rid of the rest of us because we believe in George Washington or we believe in the Constitution,” he continued. “You see this behaviour over and over again.”
The theory he appears to be endorsing is the same theory that inspired a deadly attack in Christchurch, New Zealand, in 2019, with the shooter identifying fears of white genocide in his “Great Replacement” manifesto.
Meanwhile, Fox News anchor Tucker Carlson has also promoted it. Speaking in April, he said:
“I know that the left and all the little gatekeepers on Twitter become literally hysterical if you use the term ‘replacement’.
“But they become hysterical because that’s what is happening, actually. Let’s just say it. That’s true.”
Now, reacting to Gingrich, people found his sentiments appalling:
What the fuck are “classic” Americans? 😂😂😂

I’m sure there’s many reasons that the border is wide open, but I bet democrats are hoping that the extra people will dilute some of that American patriotism that gets in the way of their dictatorship! #closetheborder #deportthemall https://t.co/MJrHqFte9A

Two years ago yesterday, a white supremacist terrorist murdered 23 people in El Paso to stop, echoing the last Republican President’s words, the “Hispanic invasion of Texas.”

It is important to understand what this is. He is justifying hatred of the other, in this instance desperately poor migrants, by proclaiming they are here to annihilate the country and the people here as part of a left wing plot to crush freedom. This is Replacement Theory and it https://t.co/tcmF93GkSE

Sounds like he doesn’t speak for as many Americans as he thinks he does.
