Republican Rep. Claims Faulty Payment Link To Blame For $85,000 In Unpaid Rent

Republican Rep. Cory Mills is saying a faulty payment link is to blame for the tens of thousands of dollars he owes in rent at a property in Washington D.C., and for which he is facing a lawsuit seeking his eviction.

NBC News reported that Bozzuto Management Company said Mills didn't pay more than $85,000 in rent between March and July. Monthly rent for the property in question is almost $21,000, the outlet added.

The management company is seeking to evict Mills and an order requiring him to submit future monthly payments with the court until the case is solved. A resident ledger, initially reported by independent journalist Roger Sollengerberg, showed he repeatedly failed to pay rent on time.

Mills addressed the report on Monday, criticizing Sollenberger and posting screenshots of him requesting new links for payment. "I know facts are unusual and unfamiliar thing for you, but here's just the past two months where you can see I'm repeatedly asking for payment links and again as I tried with management today, it failed to process," the lawmaker said.

"Facts are a finicky thing but wouldn't expect you to be anything other than a biased hack!" added Mills, who has represented Florida's 7th Congressional District since January 2023.
