Republican debate live: Donald Trump faces rivals for second time

Donald Trump will be taking centre stage as he faces his rivals for the Republican presidential nomination in a live debate tonight. Here are the latest updates:

Mr Trump, who has gone from being considered a clear outsider in the race for the presidential nomination to a frontrunner, is expected to be the main target of his 10 rivals.

The billionaire will be taking centre-stage at the main debate at the Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California, starting at 8pm EDT. Republican presidential nominations

Carly Fiorina, the only woman in the Republican field, will be a notable addition to the first debate's line-up as she joins Ben Carson, Jeb Bush, Scott Walker, Marco Rubio, John Kasich and Mike Huckabee.

They will be be joined by Kentucky Senator Rand Paul, Chris Christie the Governor of New Jersey, and Texas Senator Ted Cruz.

Four candidates lagging behind in national polls did not qualify for the main event and will be relegated to an earlier debate starting at 6pm.

They are Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham, former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum and former New York Governor George Pataki.
