Republican Andy Barr wins sixth term in Kentucky’s 6th Congressional District

Andy Barr, a Republican from Lexington, won by at least 67% of the vote on Tuesday--easily defeating Democratic challenger Geoff Young.

It will be Barr’s sixth term in Congress, he was first elected in 2012. Dozens of Barr’s supporters showed up at a rally in Lexington on Tuesday. Barr said his biggest priority is that of his constituents, which he said are concerned about the cost of living.

“Everything in this country costs more because of policy errors by the democrat majority in Congress and this president,” he said. “The war on domestic energy, energy has constrained the supply of energy. We need to get producing American energy again, to fix the supply side,” said Barr

However, Barr voted against the Inflation Reduction Act signed into law by President Biden in August.

When asked if he would support policies that protect reproductive rights if Amendment 2 fails, Barr said the decision should be left to the people.

“Look, I think this is the way it should work. Democracy is the way it should work,” he said. “The problem with Roe versus Wade, is that it deprived the American people, the voters, to do what they're doing tonight, which is to express their views on this matter,” he said.

Barr also said he wants to work with Biden but said the president should listen to the American people.

“Watch the election returns tonight, stop dividing our nation, stop disparaging Americans who have been hurt by your policies as a threat to democracy,” he said. “These Americans do not threaten democracy. They are the face of democracy.”
