Vera Pauw has today been confirmed as the new manager of the Republic of Ireland women’s senior team.
The Dutch woman, 56, was in the stands at last night’s opening 2-0 Euro qualifying win over Montenegro at Tallaght Stadium.
Tom O’Connor, who was assistant to Colin Bell before he left for Huddersfield in the summer, was in temporary charge for that game.
Capped 89 times by the Netherlands, Pauw played for Italian club Modena.
She began her managerial career with Scotland and later led the Netherlands to the Euro semi-finals in 2009.
Pauw then took charge of Russia and South Africa and was an advisor to the Thailand FA before moving to America to coach Houston Dash.
Pauw said: “I’m very excited at the prospect of managing the Republic of Ireland Women’s National Team.
“I believe we can achieve very positive results together. I was impressed with what I saw versus Montenegro and I want to wish Tom well for his future career.”
FAI High Performance Director Ruud Dokter said: “Vera is a top-class manager who will bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to our Women’s National Team.”
