Ireland were outclassed in Geneva tonight against Switzerland as they fell to a 2-0 defeat, with Mick McCarthy's men even going down to 10 men for the final fifteen minutes.
But the Boys in Green will get another crack at qualifying for Euro 2020 next month when they welcome Denmark to the Aviva Stadium, with a win for either side guaranteeing qualification.
Here's how the Ireland players rated tonight:
Darren Randolph 7 - Kept the scoreline respectable with a late penalty save.
Seamus Coleman 5 - Saw red for conceding a penalty and misses Denmark tie
Shane Duffy 7 - Got up the pitch to launch attacks but scored a late own goal
John Egan 6 - Distribution could have been better but rallied after a slow start
Enda Stevens 6 - Stuck to his task well and tried to get Ireland motoring
James McClean 5 - Willing but not always able and final balls were a let down
Glenn Whelan 8 - Took responsibility when those around him wouldn’t. Leader.
Alan Browne 5 - Booked for an early foul and struggled to impact the game
Jeff Hendrick 5 - Coughed up too much possession and off the boil. Booked.
Aaron Connolly 5 - Won some frees but cut a frustrated figure on his first start
James Collins 4 - Put himself about but lacked service and subbed at half-time
