Republic of Ireland midfielder Jason Knight linked with move to Burnley

Jason Knight has been strongly linked with a move to Burnley.

And the 23-year-old Derby midfielder could be replaced at the club by another Ireland international as Conor Hourihane is available on a free transfer following the end of his contract at Aston Villa.

Knight impressed during the Nations League last month. The 21-year-old came off the bench in the loss in Armenia, then started against Scotland and twice against Ukraine, impressing in particular in the 3-0 home win over the Scots and the 1-1 draw with Ukraine in Poland.

Although he has a year left on his Derby contract, Knight will be keen to avoid playing in League One for his international ambitions, given that the Rams have been relegated from the Championship.

With Vincent Kompany now at the helm at Burnley, the club are desperate to make an immediate return to the Premier League and Kompany has identified Knight as a key signing.

Meanwhile, Derby have confirmed that Ireland under-21 international Festy Ebosele has now joined Udinese, and he has already joined up with his new club in Austria for pre-season training.

"Derby County would like to place on record its thanks to Festy for his efforts as well as its best wishes for the future," said the Rams in a statement.
