With fan trouble dominating the headlines, both Republic of Ireland and Sweden supporters were in fantastic voice before, during and after their game at the Stade de France on Monday. The Republic of Ireland supporters paid tribute to Northern Ireland fan Darren Rodgers, who died in Nice at the weekend after a fall. In the 24th minute of the game fans sang “Stand up for the Ulstermen” in his memory.
There were more tributes back in Nice and the Northern Ireland fans will pay their own respects to Rodgers in Lyon on Thursday at their next game, against Ukraine.

The Republic of Ireland missed out on a victory in their first group game, but the celebrations from both sets of fans deserved three points. More than 73,000 fans watched Wes Hoolahan put them in front early in the second half and Ciaran Clark’s own goal did little to dampen the mood of fans. It’s safe to say the party lasted a whole lot longer than 90 minutes.
