Republic of Ireland drop six places in FIFA rankings as they are placed in Pot 3 for World Cup qualifiers draw

The Republic of Ireland have dropped six places in the FIFA rankings and will be in Pot 3 for next month's World Cup qualifiers draw.

The Boys in Green ended a poor 2020 with three more scoreless performances this month and are now ranked 42nd in the latest rankings.

Stephen Kenny has yet to record a win as senior boss, with his side scoring just one goal in his eight games in charge to date.

The draw for the World Cup qualifiers takes place on December 7 and Ireland will face one of the following teams from Pot 1: England, Belgium, France, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Croatia, Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands.

Meanwhile, Pot 2 contains Switzerland, Wales, Poland, Sweden, Austria, Ukraine, Serbia, Turkey, Slovakia and Romania.

Ireland are joined in the third Pot by Northern Ireland and Scotland. You can see the Pots in full below:

The qualifiers will be played between March and November next year.
