Republic of Ireland and Stoke City midfielder James McClean charged with two driving offences

Footballer James McClean has been charged with committing two driving offences.

The first appearance summons case was mentioned at the Magistrate's Court in Derry on Wednesday, Belfast Live reports.

McClean, 30, who is currently with EFL championship side Stoke City, has been charged with driving an Audi Q7 Quattro without a licence and without insurance at Victoria Road in the Waterside area of the city on June 28 2018.

The address of the defendant, who is originally from Creggan, was given as Victoria Gate, Victoria Road.

McClean was not in court for the case but his solicitor Paddy MacDermott said the defendant pleaded guilty to the charge of driving without insurance.

Mr MacDermott said there could be an issue in relation to the driving without a licence charge and the matter was adjourned until May 1 to have that matter resolved.
