Republic of Ireland and Derby midfielder Jason Knight attracting Premier League interest

Premier League club Burnley are showing an interest in Derby County and Ireland midfielder Jason Knight, according to reports.

The 19-year-old has been a mainstay in Derby starting 11 so far this season, playing in every Championship and League Cup match in 2020/21.

Knight received his first international call-up for the Republic of Ireland in October and has won three caps under Stephen Kenny.

The teenager got his second Championship goal of the season in the 4-0 away win vs Birmingham last week, and it now seems that his performances in a Rams shirt have not gone unnoticed by potential suitors.

According to The Sun, Sean Dyche's Burnley have put the midfielder on their ‘shopping list’ for the January transfer window.

The Clarets have recently seen a takeover of the club completed by investment firm ALK Capital, and are likely to turn to the transfer market in order to try and stave off relegation from the Premier League at the end of the season.

Burnley currently sit in 16th place in the league, five points clear of 18th placed Fulham.

However, Derby have their own relegation fight, with the Rams sitting in 22nd place in the Championship, meaning that they are not likely to depart with the young talent unless a massive offer comes in.

The imminent takeover at Pride Park will also put Derby in a strong position should the Clarets come calling this month.
